First Impressions of the Xero Shoes X1 Low
Right out of the box, the Xero Shoes X1 Low in gold is a showstopper. Solid gold, from the upper to the sole, and it photographs even better in person. I’ve worn Xero for over a decade across fitness, yoga, and daily life, and this is one of the most striking colorways I’ve unboxed yet.
The Xero Shoes X1 Low is built specific for basketball, designed to help players connect to the court with a foot shaped, wide toe box that lets your toes splay naturally for balance and better sensory feedback. That wide toe box is a hallmark of every Xero shoe I own, and it’s one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to the brand.
As with any minimalist or zero drop shoe, if you’re not used to them yet, ease in slowly. Wear them in small doses first and let the muscles of your feet adapt before jumping into major performance sessions. That said, the Xero Shoes X1 Low felt shockingly comfortable straight out of the box for me.

Midfoot support is really secure too, which matters a lot for basketball specifically since you’re constantly cutting back and forth. The sole looks properly grippy, the colors are gorgeous, and the whole shoe feels dialed in for lateral movement without sacrificing that natural, barefoot feel Xero is known for.

How the Xero Shoes X1 Low Feels on Foot
Sliding into the Xero Shoes X1 Low, the first thing I noticed was how comfy they are immediately. Nice flex through the forefoot, that flat toe box I love, and somehow they actually make my feet look smaller too, which was an unexpected bonus.
At just 11.8 oz for a size 9 men’s shoe, the X1 Low is light enough that you genuinely feel the difference in your sprints, cuts, and jumps. Add in a moisture wicking, abrasion resistant liner to keep your feet cool, and you’ve got a shoe that’s built to be worked hard and still hold up.
Every Xero Shoes X1 Low comes backed by their 5,000 mile sole warranty, which is the same warranty I’ve come to trust across every pair of Xero I’ve owned. They’re also fully vegan, which matters a lot to me as part of how I choose my gear.
