Freedom from Food Noise: A Raw Vegan Conversation with Toni of Rawlicious You

Breaking free from binge eating, calming the nervous system, simplifying the way you eat, and finding the presence that makes all of it actually stick.

Tony of Rawlicious You is one of those rare people who has genuinely done the inner work and is not afraid to talk about it honestly. Based in Phuket, Thailand, running a raw food community of over 124,000 members, organizing retreats, rescuing dogs, and living in a fruit-tree jungle, she brings something to this bundle that goes well beyond recipes. This was our first time connecting properly and it did not disappoint.

Tony’s contribution is Freedom from Food Noise, and it is one of the most honest and practical books in this entire collection. It covers how to quiet constant food thoughts and cravings without relying on willpower, a gentle 7-day reset to calm the body and restore natural hunger signals, and how to heal emotional eating patterns through nervous system support and real self-connection. The 20 simple low-fat raw recipes inside are designed to nourish without triggering overeating. This is not a diet book. It is a liberation book.

Model Diet and Masterclass

My contributions are The Model Diet, 411 pages covering the full philosophy, science, and framework behind low fat raw vegan living, and the 80/10/10 Diet Masterclass co-created with Dr. Douglas Graham, which includes Dr. Graham’s The 80/10/10 Diet as an ebook from day one.

What Freedom from Food Noise Actually Means

Tony grew up in England, left home at 16, spent years in survival mode, and turned to food, specifically sweets and binge eating, to cope with feeling disconnected, unseen, and out of place. She was always fit from her time in the Royal Air Force and years in the fitness industry, but the relationship with food underneath all of that was exhausting and out of control.

Freedom from food noise is exactly what it sounds like. It is the constant mental chatter around food. What am I eating, when am I eating, what did I just eat, what can I have next, can I control this, am I going to binge again. When food is being used as an escape from uncomfortable feelings, it takes up enormous mental real estate. It controls where you go, who you see, how you feel about yourself. It is not a character flaw. It is a coping pattern built on unmet needs, and the raw vegan lifestyle, approached with simplicity and presence, is one of the most powerful tools for unwinding it.

The key insight Tony kept returning to throughout our conversation is that the noise quiets when you simplify. Not restrict. Simplify. When there are fewer stimulating ingredients on the plate, fewer dopamine hits from hyper-palatable combinations, the body starts to hear itself again. Real hunger emerges. Real satisfaction becomes possible. And the emotional drivers underneath the eating start to become visible in a way they never could while the noise was drowning everything out.

Fruit as the Answer to the Sweet Craving

Tony’s path into raw food mirrors something I hear again and again. She was a sugar addict by any honest measure, spending hundreds of pounds on binge sessions, eating whatever was in reach when anxiety hit. When she discovered the fruit-centered approach through Freelee the Banana Girl, she started eating large volumes of smoothies and something shifted. The craving was still there but fruit was actually meeting it at a physiological level in a way that processed sweets never could.

This is something I talk about extensively in The Model Diet. Sweet cravings are real and they make complete biological sense for a species designed to thrive on fruit. The problem is not the craving. The problem is the substitution. When you go to the source, the whole dynamic changes. Tony’s story is a beautiful real world example of that principle playing out over years of lived experience.

Presence Is the Practice

The thread running through the entire conversation was presence. Eating consciously rather than mindlessly. Slowing down enough to actually hear what the body is asking for. Sitting with discomfort instead of reaching for food to escape it. Meditating. Grounding. Being with the moment instead of running from it.

Tony shared that her 40-day juice cleanse in 2020 was the turning point where she finally dropped the identity of being a binge eater. Not because the cleanse fixed her, but because it stripped away every distraction and left her alone with herself in a way she had never allowed before. The stillness was where the real healing started.

She also talked about what she calls drive time university, using time in the car not as dead time but as intentional learning and listening time. Podcasts, audiobooks, inspiring conversations. It is a beautiful reframe that costs nothing and compounds enormously over time, which brings up another concept she shared, the compound effect. Small consistent actions, 20 pages of a book a day, one meditation session, one extra piece of fruit, they do not feel significant in the moment but they add up to a completely different life over years. That is exactly how this lifestyle works too.

Cravings Are Feedback, Not Failure

One of the most useful reframes in the whole conversation was around cravings. Tony does not see them as weakness or lack of willpower. She sees them as messages. What unmet need is underneath this? Is it rest? Connection? More calories? More fat at a particular point in her cycle? Actual fruit sugar?

She now tracks her menstrual cycle and has learned that certain phases genuinely call for more fat, more cacao, more calories. Before she understood that, she would resist those signals and struggle. Now she honors them and the craving loses its frantic quality because the real need is being met. That is freedom from food noise in action. Not white-knuckling through a craving but actually listening to what it is pointing toward.

The same principle applies across the board. If sweet cravings are persistent, the first question is whether you are eating enough fruit. If energy is low, the question is whether you are eating enough full stop. The body is always communicating. The raw vegan lifestyle, lived with simplicity and presence, makes that communication easier to hear.

The Oxygen Mask Principle

Tony runs a rescue operation for street dogs in Thailand, manages a massive online community, leads retreats, and coaches clients one on one. She is a giver by nature. She talked honestly about how that can become its own form of self-neglect when you are so focused on everyone else that you forget to put the oxygen mask on yourself first.

Raw food, meditation, slowing down, honoring rest when rest is needed, all of these are how she keeps her own cup full enough to give from. That is a message that lands across this whole community. So many people in this space are deeply service-oriented and it is genuinely one of the most common patterns I see, giving and giving until there is nothing left and then wondering why the food cravings are back or the energy is gone. You cannot pour from an empty cup and this lifestyle gives you the tools to keep it full.
