Raw Vegan Natural Beauty and Healing with Skye Roar
From 60 surgeries and eight organs removed to roaring through life on raw food, natural products, and joy
Skye from @roar.skye joined me near the end of the Ultimate Raw Vegan Bundle window for one of the most joyful and deeply personal conversations of the entire launch. Skye has two contributions in the bundle this year, her Roar Beauty Book with twenty raw vegan natural beauty recipes, and her simple raw recipes book. But the conversation went far beyond beauty products into transformation, epigenetics, identity, joy as a healing tool, and why raw vegan natural beauty is about so much more than what you put on your skin.
Skye’s Story
Skye’s origin story is one of the most extraordinary in the raw food community. Sixty surgeries. Eight organs removed. Years of chronic illness, addiction to painkillers, stimulant medication, alcohol, smoking, and pharmaceutical dependence. Periods of complete dissociation where she lost memories and emotional connection to her own life. At her lowest, everyone around her had effectively given up.
What shifted was not one dramatic moment but a gradual recognition that everything she was putting in and on her body was compounding the immune response her system was already overwhelmed by. When she removed processed food, preservatives, synthetic fragrances, and cooked food, the inflammatory load dropped almost immediately. The body had been fighting on all fronts simultaneously. Taking that load off allowed it to start actually healing.
Within one year of going raw she was walking independently, reconnecting with family, working in disability support, swimming in the ocean through winter, and building what became Roar. Raw vegan natural beauty, raw recipes, and a joyful roaring approach to life that now reaches thousands of people.
Where the Beauty Recipes Come From
The Roar Beauty Book grew directly out of Skye’s healing process. As she got lighter with food and simpler with products, she realized she did not want the message to be you can only use coconut oil now. She wanted to show that you can have everything, the cleanser, the hair mask, the skin treatments, the deodorant, all of it, made from ingredients you could also eat.
The recipes are genuinely simple. Cucumber and aloe cleanser is cucumber and aloe. Coconut and avocado hair mask is coconut and avocado. Oatmeal mask is oatmeal. The point is not complexity. It is the realization that your skin does not need a list of unpronounceable ingredients to be nourished. It needs food. Real food applied with intention feels different from synthetic products and the results compound over time rather than creating dependence.
Skye drew a sharp comparison to the mainstream beauty industry. Many conventional products are formulated in a way that makes skin feel like it needs more and more. Raw vegan natural beauty works in the opposite direction. The skin gets genuinely nourished, improves over time, and the need for intervention reduces rather than escalates.
Joy as a Healing Strategy
One of the most useful frames Skye offered is that she has spent more energy building a lifestyle she loves than trying to eliminate things she does not want. The rituals matter enormously. Coming home from a social event where food was not ideal, she showers, puts on her favorite lounge wear, lights a candle, books a Pilates class for the next day, makes whatever recipe sounds good regardless of the hour. That is not indulgence. That is intelligent recovery architecture.
She talked about the brain training aspect of this. People who habitually focus on what is negative in their environment cannot simply switch to positivity when things get hard. But people who practice noticing the squirrel, seeing the flowers in the road divider, catching the light on the water, build a neural habit that is available when it matters most. Raw food opens perception in a way that makes this easier. She described it as like the sunglasses coming off in They Live, suddenly seeing the world as it actually is rather than through a filter of craving, fatigue, and noise.
Epigenetics and Taking Ownership
Skye referenced Dr. Tumi, a doctor who completed her medical degree and residency while going raw vegan simultaneously and spent a year figuring out how to integrate both worlds. The point that landed was around epigenetics. Around 88 to 90 percent of what people attribute to genetics is actually epigenetic, meaning it is switched on or off by environment, food, stress, and lifestyle choices. Very little is fixed. The story that your disease is written into your DNA is, for the vast majority of conditions, simply not accurate.
Skye took full responsibility for her own recovery rather than positioning herself as a victim of the medical system. That shift of perspective, from this is happening to me to I am a creator of my reality, was as important as any dietary change. Raw vegan natural beauty, in the deepest sense, starts there.
What the Bundle Meant to Skye
Skye bought her first Ultimate Raw Vegan Bundle in 2022, seven months after going raw, having waited specifically for the bundle to launch because she had heard about it and wanted to get everything at once. She described it as one of the best days of her life because suddenly there was a whole community, a whole library of support, and people doing this in every style and from every angle. Now she is part of the bundle herself. That arc is exactly what this project is about.
Her advice for anyone on the fence was characteristically direct. Do not try to add good habits until you have addressed removing the bad ones. Getting rid of the alcohol, the cigarettes, the painkillers, the processed food, teaches you that you can do hard things. Each win builds the capacity for the next one. Raw food comes in on top of that foundation and compounds everything.
