Awaken Your Energy with a 90 Second Kendalini Quickie Yoga Class
Looking for a quick, powerful way to ignite your energy and expand your awareness?
My Kendalini Quickie Yoga Practice is perfect for busy days or as a warm-up to deeper practices.
In just 90 seconds, we use a combination of poses, the Breath of Fire, and mindful focus on each chakra to align, energize, and awaken.
This sequence flows from the root chakra to the crown, bringing heat and vitality to the body while nurturing a sense of balance and expansion. Let’s dive into the poses, their benefits, and how to perform them for maximum impact.
Why the Breath of Fire?
The Breath of Fire is a rapid, rhythmic diaphragmatic breathing technique that:
- Increases oxygen flow, boosting energy and mental clarity.
- Detoxifies the body by stimulating circulation and enhancing digestion.
- Activates kundalini energy, helping you access heightened awareness and creativity.
- Balances the nervous system, promoting emotional stability and resilience.
By combining this breathwork with specific movements and chakra awareness, we amplify the benefits of this practice.
How to Practice the Breath of Fire
Focus on Rhythm: Begin by exhaling strongly through your nose with your mouth shut, keeping your inhales automatic from the vacuum created. The inhales and exhales should be nearly equal in length. The out-breath occurs naturally when you contract your abdomen/diaphragm, and the in-breath happens naturally as you expand your belly.
Sync with Movement:
During all contractions (e.g., forward folding, rounding forward in Cat Pose, or twisting the torso), the exhale aligns with the movement.
The inhale aligns with the movement during expansion (e.g., arching backward in Cow Pose or opening the chest in Flying Pose etc).
Stay Gentle: Keep the breath light and natural—don’t overly force it to where you are scrunching up your face. If the rhythm feels overwhelming or stirs up too much energy, slow down or shift to relaxed, easy breathing while continuing the movements with the basic out-breath on contraction and in-breath on expansion movements.
Build Comfort Over Time: Start slowly if you’re new to Breath of Fire. With consistent practice, your ability to sustain it will grow, and you’ll feel more comfortable incorporating it into your flow.
The Breath of Fire is a tool to stir and awaken energy, so honor your pace and let the practice unfold naturally!
The Kendalini Quickie Sequence
1. Sufi Grind – Activating the Root Chakra
Start by sitting in a comfortable cross-legged position. Place your hands on your knees and begin to make circular motions with your torso, like stirring a pot. Move slowly at first, then gradually increase the speed, keeping your spine straight like a stir stick.
This movement grounds your energy, awakens the root chakra, and connects you to a sense of stability and security. Visualize vibrant red energy at the base of your spine as you move.
2. Pelvic Circles – Opening the Sacral Chakra
Remain seated and shift your focus to your pelvis. Begin making circular motions with your hips and just below your navel, letting your upper body stay relatively relaxed and still. Imagine stirring the energy around your lower abdomen as you connect to your creative and sensual self.
This pose activates the sacral chakra, linked to creativity, pleasure, sexuality, and emotional flow. Visualize orange energy radiating from your lower belly.
3. Seated Cat-Cow – Awakening the Solar Plexus Chakra
Still seated, place your hands on your knees. Inhale deeply as you arch your back and look up, letting your chest expand (Cow Pose). Exhale as you round your back, tucking your chin to your chest (Cat Pose). Repeat this flow with the Breath of Fire.
This movement stimulates the solar plexus chakra, your center of personal power and confidence. Visualize golden yellow light glowing at your core, energizing and empowering you.
4. Twist Pose – Expanding the Heart Chakra
In a seated position, place your left hand on your solar plexus and your right hand on your heart. Gently twist to the left, keeping your spine tall. Breathe deeply into the twist, then switch sides exhaling with the breath of fire as you turn to the right, then repeat.
Twisting detoxifies your organs and clears stagnant energy from the heart chakra. Focus on green energy radiating from your chest, inviting love, compassion, and emotional openness.
5. Flying Pose – Opening the Heart and Throat Chakras
Extend your elbows to the sides with your hands on your shoulders and lift them slightly above shoulder height as if they are wings. Begin gently flapping your arms up and down while engaging the Breath of Fire.
This movement uplifts the heart chakra and opens the throat chakra, allowing for self-expression and joy. Visualize green and blue energy expanding outward, connecting you to your inner freedom and truth.
6. Alternate Shoulder Shrugs – Energizing the Throat Chakra
Sit comfortably and shrug one shoulder up toward your ear while lowering the other. Alternate between shoulders in a rhythmic motion, syncing with the Breath of Fire. Then move on to shrug both shoulders up towards the ears, inhaling on the up and exhaling as you release down. I often like to finish by squeezing my shoulders up for a few seconds, a few times.
This action releases shoulder and neck tension, activating the throat chakra. Imagine blue energy swirling around your neck, clearing the way for authentic communication and self-expression.
7. Neck Twists – Aligning the Third-Eye Chakra
Slowly turn your head from side to side as if saying “no,” at the end, you may wish to nod gently as if saying “yes.” Keep your movements slow and mindful, focusing on the area between your eyebrows.
Neck twists help release tension and stimulate the third-eye chakra, your center of intuition and inner vision. Visualize indigo energy glowing at your forehead, guiding you toward clarity and insight.
8. Prayer Pose – Balancing the Crown Chakra
End the practice by bringing your palms together at your heart in Prayer Pose. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and visualize white or violet light radiating from the top of your head.
This pose grounds the practice, balancing your crown chakra and connecting you to universal energy and oneness. Feel gratitude for your practice and the energy you’ve cultivated.
How to Make It Your Own
This 90-second Kendalini Quickie sequence is incredibly versatile. You can use it as a quick pick-me-up, a warm-up for deeper practices, or expand it into a longer session of 5, 10, 20, or even 60+ minutes.
