Healing on a Raw Vegan Diet – 6 Weeks Update

Healing on a Raw Vegan Diet: 6 Weeks Update

A personal update from the hospital six weeks after our motorcycle accident, with some exciting milestones, a remarkable recovery story, and what healing on a raw vegan diet actually looks like in practice.

Six weeks after our motorcycle accident Kamilla and I are back with an update and some genuinely exciting news to share. Healing on a raw vegan diet has been a full time job, between the rehab, physio, sleeping, company, and of course the eating, every day has been focused entirely on recovery. Kamilla has been in hospital for almost the full six weeks and I have been coming in five to nine hours a day since I got home. It has been intense, emotional, and also overwhelmingly full of love and gratitude.

My Update: Weight Bearing and Rehab Begins

Big news on my end. After six full weeks of being completely off my left leg, using crutches everywhere and not being able to touch it down at all, my doctor cleared me to start bearing weight on it again. I cannot overstate how good it felt to stand on both feet and walk to the bathroom like a normal human being. Small things become everything when they are taken away.

My first official rehab class starts Wednesday and I have been keeping as active as possible in the meantime with light home yoga and upper body work, push ups, pull ups, whatever I can do without loading the leg. The knee that was operated on is coming along well, still a little algae but improving steadily with stretching and movement. Healing on a raw vegan diet through this kind of injury has reinforced everything I already believed about what this lifestyle does for the body’s ability to repair itself.

Kamilla’s Remarkable Recovery Story

This is the part that genuinely blew us both away. During the accident and the surgery that followed, Kamilla lost a significant amount of blood. Her hemoglobin levels dropped very low and her doctor gave her a choice: blood transfusion or heal naturally. She chose to let her body do the work.

To support her hemoglobin and help her body produce new blood, the focus was on foods rich in iron and folate. Broccoli, leafy greens, green beans, cabbage, lentils, and watermelon featured heavily. Smoothies packed with greens became a daily staple, delicious ones too. The nursing staff were incredible throughout and so supportive of the whole approach.

Her doctor told her that getting from her level back to a healthy range would normally take around four months. Kamilla did it in four weeks. That is not a typo. Four weeks instead of four months. The doctors were genuinely impressed and so were we, though honestly after years of seeing what healing on a raw vegan diet can do, it felt like confirmation of what we already knew.

She is getting out of hospital very soon, which felt almost unimaginable when we were in the thick of it. She is practicing walking, has a new pink splint on her hand, and can already throw a perfect peace sign. Priorities in order.

What Makes Healing on a Raw Vegan Diet So Effective

Going through this experience gave me a lot of time to reflect on why this lifestyle supports recovery so well. A few things stand out.

Fresh fruits and vegetables provide the highest concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients per calorie of any foods on the planet. When the body is in repair mode it needs those nutrients in abundance. Easy to digest foods mean more energy goes toward healing rather than processing. Kamilla’s iron and folate rich greens and fruit approach is a perfect example of the body being given exactly what it needs in the most bioavailable form possible.

Staying well hydrated through high water content foods also supports circulation, nutrient delivery, and the removal of metabolic waste, all critical during recovery. The simplicity of the diet meant her digestive system was not overburdened at a time when every bit of energy needed to go toward repair.

Mastering Raw Food Nutrition with Dr Rick and Karin Dina

One more exciting thing we wanted to share. In the middle of all of this we both joined the Mastering Raw Food Nutrition course by Drs Rick and Karin Dina. After 18 years studying nutrition and 14 years as a registered holistic nutritionist and raw food coach I was genuinely excited to dive into their science driven, peer reviewed approach. It is an intensive year long college level course, a real investment in both time and money, but we are both absolutely loving it.

If you are interested in the course and sign up, which I highly recommend, feel free to mention Chris Kendall referred you.

Gratitude

The love and support that has poured in from this community has been overwhelming in the best possible way. Every message, every positive thought, every kind word has made a real difference to both of us through the hardest stretch either of us has been through.

We are coming back stronger, more experienced, more compassionate, and more grateful than ever. Each day truly is a blessing and we do not take a single one for granted.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As Always

Wishing You Much
